The Chorizanthe brevicornu is a type of flowering plant. It belongs to the buckwheat family. People often call it the brittle spineflower.
This plant grows naturally in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is found in many places there. However, it is most common in desert areas.
What Does the Brittle Spineflower Look Like?
This plant has a straight, green stem. The stem branches out a lot. Most of its leaves grow from the bottom, near the ground. You might see a few small leaves higher up on the stem too.
Its Flowers
At the end of each branch, there is a tube-shaped flower cluster. This cluster is called an inflorescence. These clusters open up to show tiny flowers. The flowers are white or greenish-yellow. They are only a few millimeters wide.
Types of Brittle Spineflower
There are two different types, or 'subvarieties,' of the Chorizanthe brevicornu.
