Chris Amoo is a famous British singer and songwriter. He is best known as the lead singer of the popular soul music group, The Real Thing.
Who is Chris Amoo?
Chris Amoo was born in Liverpool, England, on October 14, 1952. His family has a cool mix of backgrounds: his grandfather was from Ghana, and his grandmother was from Ireland. Chris had an older brother named Eddie Amoo, who was also a member of The Real Thing. Sadly, Eddie passed away in 2018. Chris is married to Julie Amoo.
Music Career
As part of The Real Thing, Chris Amoo helped create some really big hits! Their most famous songs include "You to Me Are Everything," "Can't Get By Without You," and "Can You Feel the Force?" These songs became very popular.
In March 1977, one of his songs, "You'll Never Know What You're Missing," was a hit in the Billboard chart in the United States. It reached as high as No. 20!
Chris also released some songs on his own. In 1981, he put out a single called "This Must Be Love." Later, in 1984, he released a song called "No Choir of Angels" with singer Debby Bishop.
A Champion Dog Breeder
Besides music, Chris Amoo has another amazing talent: he's a very successful dog breeder and judge! He and his wife, Julie, are famous for their Afghan Hounds.
In 1987, their Afghan Hound, named Viscount Grant, won the top prize at Crufts, which is one of the biggest dog shows in the world! Winning "Best in Show" at Crufts is a huge achievement for any dog breeder.
Chris has also been a judge at many dog shows. In 1987, he helped judge young dog handlers. He has also judged specific dog breeds, like the Irish Wolfhound, at shows in France and other places.
On Screen and Radio
Chris Amoo has appeared on television shows over the years. In 1984, he was a guest on a show hosted by Marti Caine. He also appeared on Crufts 88 in 1988, which was about the famous dog show. Later, he was on shows like After They Were Famous in 2000 and Hit Me Baby 1 More Time in 2005.
In 2019, a film called Everything - The Real Thing Story was made about his band. Chris appeared in the film, which was shown on BBC Four in 2020.
