The Story of CM&I College
How CM&I Started
The school began way back in 1897. It was first known as Christ's Holiness School. It was started by a church group called the Church of God in Christ. Later, another church group, the Church of Christ (Holiness) U.S.A., took over.
Moving to a New Home and New Name
In 1908, the school moved to its current spot on Main Street. At that time, it also changed its name to Christ Missionary & Industrial College. The current principal who leads the school is Stan Beasley.
School Spirit and Sports
The school's mascot is a crusader, which is a symbol of bravery and determination. The school colors are royal blue and white. CM&I has several sports teams, including baseball, basketball, and football.
In 2000, the school made history! Their all-black football team became the first to play in a contest organized by the Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA). This was a big step for the school and for sports in Mississippi.
Past Leaders and Challenges
Over the years, many people have helped lead CM&I. G. G. Mosley was one principal, and Chas. P. Jones was principal in 1922.
Like many old buildings, the school has faced some tough times. In 2020, the school was damaged by vandals. Then, in February 2021, an ice storm caused more damage to the buildings on campus.
Notable Graduates
Many students have graduated from CM&I and gone on to do great things. One example is Willenham Castilla, who was a student at the school.
