About the Christina Nelson Three-Decker

The Christina Nelson Three-Decker is in the North Quinsigamond area of southern Worcester. You can find it on the south side of Butler Street. It sits between Bothina and Malmo Streets.

What Does It Look Like?

This house is three stories tall. It is made of wood and has a pointed roof. The outside is covered with modern siding.

The front of the house has porches on all three floors. These porches are held up by round columns. On the left side of the house, there is a rounded section with windows. The very top of the front of the house has a triangle-shaped design.

When the house was first built, its outside walls had two different coverings. It used both long, flat wooden boards called clapboards. It also had wooden shingles. These shingles were placed in strips between the windows on the rounded front section.

When Was It Built?

The Christina Nelson Three-Decker was built around 1916. This was a busy time for building homes in the Quinsigamond area. Many new houses were built there between 1890 and 1920.

The first known owner of the house was Christina Nelson. She lived nearby on Keach Street. Many of the first people who rented homes in this building were immigrants from Scandinavia. They came to the area to work at the Quinsigamond Works. This was a large metal processing factory and a big employer in the area.
