Christine Morris's Journey

Early Studies and Discoveries

Christine Morris studied at the University of Cambridge and University College London. Before joining Trinity College Dublin in 1994, she worked for the British School at Athens. This experience helped her learn a lot about ancient Greece.

Exploring the Ancient Aegean Bronze Age

Today, Professor Morris is known as the Andrew A. David Professor in Greek Archaeology and History. She is an expert on the Aegean Bronze Age. This was a time long ago when advanced civilizations lived around the Aegean Sea. She focuses on the objects people made, like pottery and statues. She also studies how different cultures interacted and what they believed.

Understanding Ancient Beliefs

Professor Morris, working with Alan Peatfield, has suggested that the Minoan religion was very personal and involved special experiences. They think that some ancient Minoan statues might show people in deep, spiritual states. She also believes it's important to look at how individual artists created these ancient figures.

Important Research and Books

One of Professor Morris's most famous works is a book called Ancient Goddesses: the Myths and Evidence. She co-edited this book with Lucy Goodison. In the book, they explore how ancient goddess figures were used and what they meant. Another expert, Christine Gudorf, described it as a great review of what we know about ancient goddesses from Europe and the Near East.

Helping Archaeology in Ireland

Professor Morris is a member of the Standing Committee for Archaeology for the Royal Irish Academy. This means she helps make important decisions about how archaeology is done in Ireland. In 2014, she was chosen as a fellow of Trinity College Dublin, which is a special honor.
