Christopher Magnay (born in 1767 – died in 1826) was an important English businessman. He held a very special job in London: he was the Lord Mayor of London from 1821 to 1822.

Christopher Magnay was born in October 1767 in a town called Haltwhistle in Northumberland, England. His parents were John Magnay and Ann Liddle. He grew up to become a successful merchant, which means he was involved in buying and selling goods in the big city of London.
Becoming a City Leader
Magnay was a member of a group called the Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors. These "companies" were like old-fashioned clubs or guilds for different trades and businesses in London.
In 1809, Christopher Magnay was chosen as an alderman for the Vintry ward in the City of London. An alderman is like a local council member who helps run the city.
He continued to rise in importance. From 1813 to 1814, he served as the Sheriff of London. The Sheriffs were important officers who helped keep law and order and manage elections in the city.
Later, from 1816 to 1817, he became the leader, or "master," of another important group: the Stationers Company. This company was for people involved in printing, publishing, and selling books and newspapers.
Finally, in 1821, Christopher Magnay reached one of the highest positions in London. He was elected Lord Mayor of London. This is a very old and respected role, like being the chief leader of the City of London. The Lord Mayor helps represent the city and leads many important events.

Christopher Magnay also had a son named William Magnay. His son later became a baronet, which is a special title of honor passed down through families.
