Christopher Wandesford, 2nd Viscount Castlecomer (born March 2, 1684 – died June 23, 1719) was an important Irish politician. He held a special title called "Viscount," which is a rank of nobility. Christopher served in both the Parliament of Ireland and the British House of Commons during the early 1700s. He was known for his work in government and his role in shaping laws.

Who Was Christopher Wandesford?

Christopher Wandesford was the son of the first Viscount Castlecomer, also named Christopher Wandesford. He grew up in a family with a history in politics. He went to Trinity College, Dublin in 1702, which is a famous university in Ireland.

Starting His Political Journey

In 1707, Christopher became a Member of Parliament (MP) for St Canice in the Parliament of Ireland. An MP is a person chosen to represent people in government. That same year, he also inherited his father's title, becoming the 2nd Viscount Castlecomer.

In 1710, he joined the Privy Council of Ireland. This was a group of important advisors to the King or Queen. Later, in 1715, he became the Governor of Kilkenny, a region in Ireland.

Serving in the British Parliament

Christopher Wandesford also served in the British Parliament. In 1710, he was elected as an MP for Morpeth. He held this seat until 1713.

Later, in 1715, he was elected again as an MP, this time for Ripon. He continued to serve in Parliament until he passed away in 1719. In 1718, he took on a very important job as Secretary at War. This role involved managing the army and military affairs.

Family Life

In 1715, Christopher Wandesford married Hon. Frances Pelham. She was the daughter of Thomas Pelham, 1st Baron Pelham. Christopher passed away at the age of 35. His only child, also named Christopher, then became the 3rd Viscount Castlecomer.
