Chula Vista Resort facts for kids
Chula Vista Resort is a fun waterpark resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. It has a cool southwestern theme, making you feel like you're in a desert adventure! The resort sits right on the beautiful Upper Dells of the Wisconsin River, about 3 miles (4.8 km) north of the main downtown area.
History of Chula Vista
Chula Vista has been around for a long time, starting in the late 1800s. Back then, it was just one vacation home by the Wisconsin River. In the 1920s, the Berry Family bought the property. They built a hotel called Berry's Coldwater Canyon Hotel and a golf course.
Later, in 1952, Joe and Vera Kaminski started working at the hotel. They eventually bought the whole place from the Berry Family. Today, Joe and Vera's grandsons, Tim and Mike Kaminski, run the resort. They changed the name to Chula Vista Theme Resort and built a new main hotel and an outdoor pool area.
Big Changes and Expansions
In the 1990s, Chula Vista grew even more! They added a huge 150,000-square-foot (14,000 m2) outdoor waterpark. They also built a 30,000 square feet (2,800 m2) indoor waterpark, which has since been replaced by an even bigger one.
In 2006, the resort dropped "Theme" from its name and became simply Chula Vista Resort. This was part of a massive $200 million expansion! They built an amazing 80,000 square feet (7,400 m2) indoor waterpark with many levels. The golf course was also redesigned. New condominium rooms and golf villas were added for guests.
The expansion also brought an outdoor wave pool right by the Wisconsin River. A long riverwalk was built along the property, perfect for strolls. They added sand volleyball courts and a lazy river just for kids. A new steakhouse was opened, and a large convention space was created. These changes made Chula Vista one of the biggest and best waterpark resorts in Wisconsin Dells, with 620 rooms!
Sports and Events Center
In 2007, Chula Vista built a special sports dome called the Wisconsin Dells Center. It's located just south of the resort. This center hosts many sports events and finals from Wisconsin and the Midwest. You can also find concerts, indoor football games, and trade shows happening there.
