The Church of San Juan Bautista (which means Saint John the Baptist Church in Spanish) is a very old and important church. You can find it in a town called Talamanca de Jarama in Spain. This church was recognized as a special historical site in 1931. It's known as a Bien de Interés Cultural, which means it's a cultural heritage site.

A Look at Its History

This church was first built a very long time ago. It was constructed either in the late 1100s or the early 1200s. Back then, it was built in a style called Romanesque. This style is known for its thick walls, round arches, and strong, simple look.

What Happened to the Original Church?

Most of the original Romanesque church is not there anymore. Only one part, called the apse, still stands from the first building. The apse is the rounded or multi-sided end of a church, usually where the altar is.

The rest of the church was taken down in the 1500s. This was during a time when a new style of building became popular.

Rebuilding in Renaissance Style

After the old parts were removed, the church was rebuilt. This happened in the 16th century, which is the 1500s. The new parts were built in the Renaissance style.

Renaissance architecture was different from Romanesque. It often used ideas from ancient Roman and Greek buildings. It focused on balance, symmetry, and classical details. So, the Church of San Juan Bautista is a mix of two very old and interesting building styles!
