A Look Back at St. James Church
How St. James Church Began
The Church of St. James the Apostle was started by a leader named Bishop William Ingraham Kip. The very first church service happened on June 27, 1858. This was a long time ago, even before many of our grandparents were born!
The Church Buildings
The first building for the church was finished around the year 1860. This original building is still used today, but now it serves as a "parish house." A parish house is like a community center for the church. The main church building you see today was built later, in 1886. It was designed by architects from San Francisco named Wright & Sanders.
