The Balliol Family and Their Castle

One famous owner of the castle was Enguerrand de Bailleul. He was an important figure known as the Admiral of France. This shows how significant the Balliol family was in French society as well.
The Castle's Fate: Destruction and New Owners
Sadly, the Château de Bailleul no longer stands today. It was destroyed by the Duke of Burgundy, a powerful ruler during that time. Many castles were destroyed in conflicts back then.
In 1330, the castle was officially taken over by the French king. This means it was "forfeited" or lost to the French crown.
