About Ciarán Ó Cofaigh
Ciarán Ó Cofaigh grew up in Ráth Cairn, a place in County Meath, Ireland. Now, he lives in Indreabhán, County Galway. He has worked in the Irish film and TV world for almost three decades.
How Ciarán Started
Ciarán began his career by taking a special course for producers and directors. This course was set up by Údarás na Gaeltachta and RTÉ, which is Ireland's national broadcaster. After his training, he worked on different shows for RTÉ and BBC NI.
Ciarán's Amazing Work
Ciarán is a very experienced producer, director, and even an animator for both movies and television. He has created many popular and award-winning productions. Some of these include:
- The feature film Cré na Cille (which means Graveyard Clay)
- The exciting supernatural TV series Na Cloigne (meaning The Heads)
- The animated series Scéal na Gaeilge (which tells The Story of the Irish Language)
- The thriller series An Bronntanas (meaning The Gift)
- The docu-drama movie Murdair Mhám Trasna (about The Mám Trasna Murders)
Ciarán has also worked on a feature docu-drama called Avenger Ghaoth Dobhair (the Gaoth Dobhair Avenger).
Founding ROSG Film Company
In 1998, Ciarán helped start a film and television company called ROSG. The name ROSG comes from an old Irish word meaning eye. This company is based in An Spidéal, Ireland. Since it began, ROSG has made many different types of productions. These include films, dramas, documentaries, and even animations. Their work has won awards both in Ireland and around the world.
Supporting New Talent
Ciarán also helped create and produce something called the Siol Scéal initiative. This was a special program for short films. It was set up by ROSG and another company, Eo Teilifís. The main goal was to help new, talented writers and directors get their start. Through this program, 24 short films, each about half an hour long, have been made and shown on TV.
Teaching and Sharing Knowledge
Besides making films, Ciarán has also taught others about television and broadcasting. He shared his knowledge at University College Galway.
The Cré na Cille Movie
Ciarán produced a movie based on the famous novel Cré na Cille by Máirtín Ó Cadhain. The movie starred Bríd Ní Neachtain. This film was shown at many film festivals, both in Ireland and internationally, including the Shanghai International Film Festival.
