The St. Joseph Cathedral (also known as Spanish: Catedral de San José or Ciudad Guzmán Cathedral) is a very important Catholic church located in Ciudad Guzmán, Mexico. It serves as the main church for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ciudad Guzmán. This means it's where the bishop has his official seat and is considered the "mother church" for all Catholic churches in that area.
History of the Cathedral
The building we see today was started in 1866. The very first stone was placed on May 27, 1866. This important event was led by the parish priest at the time, Antonio Zuniga Ibarra. The cathedral took many years to build. It was finally finished and officially opened on October 8, 1900.
