Clare Vanderpool, born in 1965, is an American author. She writes exciting books for children. Clare lives in Wichita, Kansas.
Her very first book, Moon Over Manifest, won a huge award. It received the Newbery Medal in 2011. This was a big deal! She was the first new author in 30 years to win it with her first book. Clare was also the first person from Kansas to ever win the Newbery Medal. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Her book Navigating Early also received a special award. It was named a 2014 Printz Honor Book.
About Clare Vanderpool
Clare Vanderpool went to Blessed Sacrament elementary school. She later graduated from Newman University in 1987. Clare decided she wanted to be a writer when she was in fifth grade. She made her childhood dream come true at age 45. That is when her first book was published.
Life in Kansas
Clare is married and lives with her husband. They live in the College Hill neighborhood of Wichita, Kansas. They have four children. Clare has college degrees in English and elementary education.

Awards and Recognition
Moon Over Manifest won the prestigious Newbery Medal. This award is given to the author of the most outstanding American book for children. Navigating Early earned Mathical Honors. It was also named a Printz Honor Book.
The Watermark Books and Cafe in Wichita has hosted special events. They launched both of Clare's novels there.
