Clare Vanderpool is an American author who writes exciting books for young readers. She was born in 1965 and lives in Wichita, Kansas. Clare is famous for her first book, Moon Over Manifest.
This book won the important Newbery Medal in 2011. It was special because she was the first new author in 30 years to win it with her very first book! She was also the first person from Kansas to receive this award. Clare Vanderpool is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Her book Navigating Early also won an honor award in 2014.
About Clare Vanderpool
Clare Vanderpool grew up in Wichita, Kansas. She went to Blessed Sacrament elementary school. Later, she graduated from Newman University in 1987.
Her Journey to Becoming an Author
Clare knew she wanted to be a writer when she was in fifth grade. She worked hard to make this dream come true. Her first book was published when she was 45 years old. Before becoming a full-time author, she worked for a Catholic organization. She helped young people and adults there.
Today, Clare is married and has four children. She lives with her family in Wichita, Kansas. She studied English and elementary education in college. These subjects helped her become a great writer for kids.
