Claudette Buttigieg (born Claudette Pace on 8 February 1968) is a Maltese politician. She is a member of the Parliament of Malta and serves as the Deputy Speaker. Before her political career, she was a well-known TV presenter and singer.

Early Life and Music Career

Claudette Buttigieg was born in Naxxar, Malta. She became famous in January 2000 when she won the Malta Song For Europe festival. This competition chooses Malta's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her winning song was called Desire. This song was her first and only single.

Before the main Eurovision event, Claudette toured countries like Germany, Australia, and Sweden. Sweden was the host country for the Eurovision Song Contest 2000. At the contest, her song Desire placed eighth.

Claudette was also a popular television presenter in Malta. She worked for all three main Maltese TV networks: One TV, NET TV, and TVM. She stopped her TV career when she decided to enter politics.

Political Journey

Claudette Buttigieg began her political career in 2013. She was elected to the Parliament of Malta from the 8th district. She joined the Nationalist Party. In her first term, she was a 'shadow minister' for health. This means she was part of the opposition party and focused on health issues.

She was re-elected in the 2017 Maltese general election. After this election, she was chosen to be the Deputy Speaker. The Deputy Speaker helps the Speaker manage meetings in parliament. She was elected again in the 2022 Maltese general election, continuing her role in parliament.
