The Coalmont Bank Building is a special old building in Coalmont, Tennessee, USA. It's also known as the Sewanee Fuel & Iron Company Building. Today, this historic building is used as the city hall and the local library for Coalmont.
A Look Back at Coalmont's History
Coalmont started as a "company town" in 1903. This means a company owned most of the town, including homes and stores. The first company was called the Sewanee Coal, Coke and Land Company. In 1908, it changed its name to the Sewanee Fuel and Iron Company.
Why the Building Was Built
The Sewanee Fuel and Iron Company built the Coalmont Bank Building in 1921. They wanted a place for both town services and their own offices. The first floor had a bank and a post office. The company's offices were on the second floor. This made it a very important building for the town!
A Special Place in History
The Coalmont Bank Building is located on Tennessee State Route 56. Because of its history and importance, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. This means it's recognized as a building worth preserving for future generations.
