History of the Coffee Board
The Coffee Board of India was started in 1942 by a special law passed by the Indian Parliament. For many years, until 1995, the Coffee Board was in charge of selling almost all the coffee grown in India. They would collect coffee from different growers and then sell it.
After 1995, things changed because of new economic rules in India. This meant that private companies could start selling coffee directly. So, the Coffee Board's role in selling coffee became less direct.
What the Coffee Board Does
Even after 1995, the Coffee Board still has many important jobs. These jobs help the coffee industry in India grow and stay strong.
Their main duties include:
- Helping to sell more coffee, both in India and to other countries.
- Doing research to find better ways to grow coffee. This includes studying new coffee plants and farming methods.
- Giving money and help to small coffee farmers. This helps them set up and improve their coffee farms.
- Making sure that people who work on coffee farms have good working conditions.
- Managing any extra coffee that hasn't been sold yet.
