The College Women's Club was a special group for women in Berkeley, California. It started in 1920. This club helped the community by creating Berkeley's first cooperative day nursery. They also set up scholarships to help students pay for college.

The Club's Building

The building for the College Women's Club was built in 1928. It was designed by an architect named Walter T. Steilberg. The building was made in the American Craftsman style. This style often uses natural materials like wood and stone. It also features handcrafted details.

After some time, the College Women's Club sold the building. It was then used as a rooming house. A rooming house is a building where people can rent single rooms. Later, it became a sorority house. A sorority is a club for female college students.

In the early 1990s, the building was carefully fixed up. It was restored to its original look. After this restoration, it became known as the Berkeley Hotel.

A Special Landmark

The building, now called the Berkeley Hotel, is very important. The city of Berkeley recognized it as a Berkeley Landmark in 1979. This means it's a historic place that the city wants to protect.

It was also added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. This is a list of places across the United States that are important to history. Being on this list helps protect the building for future generations.
