How CMN Started
The College of the Muscogee Nation was created in 2004. The Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council made a law to start it. In 2009, the people of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation voted. They wanted CMN to become a "constitutional college." This means the college's main rules are now part of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation's own constitution. This makes the college very important and stable.
CMN's Connections
CMN is part of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium. This group helps tribal colleges work together. The college also has a special status called a "1994 Land-Grant institution." This means it gets support to teach about agriculture and other important topics. Many of the teachers at CMN are Native American. In 2020, about 90% of the teachers were reported to be "American Indian or Alaska Native." Also, 60% of the teachers were women.
Accreditation and Quality
The Higher Learning Commission checked CMN in 2016. They gave the college "Initial Accreditation." This means the college meets high standards for education. The accreditation was checked again in 2020 and approved. The next review will be in 2026 or 2027.
How CMN is Run
The College of the Muscogee Nation is guided by a group called the Board of Regents. This board is very important. Its existence is guaranteed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Constitution. The board has five members. All members are Muscogee citizens. They meet every month to make decisions for the college. The Principal Chief chooses who will be on the board. Then, the National Council must approve them.
What Students Can Learn
CMN offers many different classes. Students can take general education courses. They can also take special courses about the Muscogee Nation. Students can earn associate degrees or certificates. These programs focus on things important to the Muscogee Nation. This includes Mvskoke studies and learning the Mvskoke language. CMN is one of only seven tribal colleges in the United States. It offers a degree that helps students learn how to manage tribal governments and organizations.
