Colm Kearney was born and grew up in Dublin, Ireland. He went to University College Dublin (UCD), where he earned a degree in Economics and Politics. This means he studied how countries manage money and how governments work.
He continued his studies, earning advanced degrees (called master's degrees) in economics from UCD, the University of Essex, and The University of Western Ontario. Later, in 1985, he earned his highest degree, a PhD, from the University of Warwick. His PhD research focused on how money policies affect the value of things like stocks and property.
Teaching and Research Career
Colm Kearney started his career teaching at the University of Essex. He then worked as a researcher at the University of Warwick while finishing his PhD. He later joined the Economics Department at the University of New South Wales in Australia, becoming a senior teacher there in 1988.
In 1990, he became a full professor in Economics and Finance at University of Western Sydney. This is a very high teaching position at a university. He also worked as an economic advisor for the Australian government, helping them make important decisions about the country's money and economy.
After that, he became a professor of finance and economics at the University of Technology, Sydney. He continued his important research, receiving special awards from the Australian Research Council to support his work.
From 2001 to 2011, Professor Kearney taught international business at Trinity College, Dublin. He was chosen to lead the Faculty of Business Economic and Social Studies in 2004. In 2005, he became the chief academic officer for the entire college, helping to guide all its teaching and research.
