History of Columbia Township
Columbia Township was officially created in the year 1855. This means it has been a recognized area for over 160 years.

Colling Community
- Colling is a small, unincorporated community. This means it's not an official town with its own government. It was named after William Colling. He was a Canadian who bought a lot of land here in 1880. Colling used to have a train station and a post office. The post office was open from 1903 to 1936.

- Columbia Corners is another unincorporated community. It started even earlier, in 1854. This community also had its own post office. It operated from 1879 until 1903.
Colwood Community
- Colwood is an unincorporated community located on the border between Columbia Township and Elmwood Township. Its name is a mix of "Columbia" and "wood." This is because lumber (wood) was a very important product here. Colwood had a post office from 1884 to 1905.
Unionville Village
- Unionville is a village located in the northwest part of Columbia Township. Unlike the other communities, Unionville is an incorporated village. This means it has its own local government and is an official town.
