The Commercial Hotel, also known as the General Pershing Hotel, was a special building in DuBois, Pennsylvania, United States. It was once a busy hotel and later included a theater. This historic place was an important part of the town's history.
The Commercial Hotel: A Look Back
The Commercial Hotel was a four-story building made of brick. It first opened its doors in 1889. Back then, it was a two-story hotel with 58 rooms for guests. Just a few years later, in 1901, the hotel grew much bigger. It was expanded to four stories and had 100 rooms. Imagine how many people could stay there!
From Hotel to Playhouse
The building wasn't just a hotel. In 1937, a large theater called the Harris-DuBois Theater opened inside. This theater had 700 seats, which is a lot of space for people to watch shows! Later, the theater changed its name to the DuBois Playhouse. Many people likely enjoyed movies or plays there. Sadly, the entire building has since been taken down.

Even though the Commercial Hotel is gone now, it was once recognized as a very important historical site. On November 13, 1985, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list that helps protect and celebrate important places in American history.
