The Comstock-Harris House is a very old and special home in Winter Park, Florida. You can find it at 724 Bonita Drive. This house is so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 13, 1983. This means it's officially recognized as a historic building worth protecting.

History of the Comstock-Harris House

A small house was first built on this spot way back in 1878. A few years later, in 1883, a businessman from Chicago named William C. Comstock bought the property. He decided to rebuild the house into the much larger and more beautiful home we see today.

A Unique Queen Anne Style Home

The Comstock-Harris House was rebuilt in the Queen Anne style. This style is known for its fancy details, towers, and decorative porches. The house is also called "Eastbank" because it sits on the east side of Lake Osceola.

This amazing house is the oldest home still standing in Winter Park! It was first built as a cozy winter cottage. Today, it has three floors and three different stairways. One of the staircases is very special because it turns in front of a beautiful stained glass window.

Special Features of the House

The house has a strong foundation made of red bricks. These same red bricks were also used for the six fireplaces inside the house. When it was first built, the house was painted yellow with dark green trim.

The land around the house was once very large, about sixty acres! Long ago, camphor trees lined the driveway that led to the house. This driveway is now known as Bonita Drive. The Comstock-Harris House is still a private home today.
