Consolación (Valdepeñas)

Consolación is a small village, also known as a pedanía, located within the larger area governed by the town of Valdepeñas in Spain. It is about 11 kilometers (about 7 miles) north of Valdepeñas.

This village is easy to find because it sits right where a major highway, the Autovía A-4 (also called Autovia del Sur), crosses with a local road, CR-5214.

History of Consolación

Consolación was built in 1949 by a government group called the Instituto Nacional de Colonización. This group helped create new farming villages across Spain.

Village Design

The streets in Consolación are laid out in a very neat and organized way, like a grid. This geometric pattern was common for villages built by the Instituto Nacional de Colonización.

Original Name

When it was first built, the village had a different name: Villanueva de Franco. It was named after General Franco, who was a leader in Spain's history. Later, the name was changed to Consolación.

Population of Consolación

According to a count of people done in 2006 by the INE, which is Spain's national statistics office, Consolación had 223 people living there.
