Constantine Phipps, 1st Baron Mulgrave facts for kids
Constantine Phipps, 1st Baron Mulgrave (born 22 August 1722 – died 13 September 1775), was an important person in Irish history. He was given the title of Baron Mulgrave in 1767. This title was part of the Peerage of Ireland, which is a system of noble ranks in Ireland.
His Family Background
Constantine Phipps was the son of Lady Catherine Annesley and William Phipps. His grandfather was Sir Constantine Henry Phipps. Sir Constantine Henry Phipps was a very important lawyer. He served as the Lord Chancellor of Ireland from 1710 to 1714. This role meant he was the chief judge and a key advisor to the government.
Lady Catherine Annesley was the daughter of James Annesley, 3rd Earl of Anglesey. Her mother was Lady Catherine Darnley. Lady Catherine Darnley was a daughter of King James II. She was born before her parents were married. Later, Lady Catherine Darnley married John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby. This made Constantine Phipps, 1st Baron Mulgrave, a step-grandson to the 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby.
His Children
On 26 February 1743, Constantine Phipps married Lepell Hervey. She was the daughter of John Hervey, 2nd Baron Hervey. Constantine and Lepell had several children together:

- Charles Phipps (1753–1786)
- Henry Phipps, 1st Earl of Mulgrave (1755–1831)
- Henrietta Maria Phipps (1757–1782), who married Charles Dillon, 12th Viscount Dillon
- General Edmund Phipps, who was also a Member of Parliament (1760–1837)
- Augustus Phipps (1762–1826)
Constantine Phipps, 1st Baron Mulgrave, passed away on 13 September 1775. He was 53 years old.
