Her Life and Career
Consuelo Mayendía was a very popular performer in the early 1900s. She became one of the biggest stars at the famous Teatro Apolo in Madrid, Spain.
She performed in many different types of shows:
- Operettas: These are like short, light operas with singing, talking, and often a funny story.
- Lyrical sketches: These were short musical plays, often with songs and a simple plot.
Consuelo often worked with the writer Carlos Arniches and actor José Moncayo. They appeared together in several popular plays, including:
- El trust de los tenorios (1910)
- El amo de la calle (1910)
- El amigo Melquíades (1914)
- Serafín el pinturero (1916)
She also starred in the first performance of Diana la cazadora (1915). This play was written by the Hermanos Álvarez Quintero and had music by María Rodrigo.
Consuelo Mayendía was married to another actor, Cristóbal Sánchez del Pino.
