Convent of the Holy Trinity and Immaculate Conception

The Convent of the Holy Trinity and Immaculate Conception is a very old and special building. It is located in Écija, a town in the Seville Province in Spain. This convent is run by a group of nuns called the Franciscan Conceptionists.

Many people know it simply as Marroquies. It stands just a short walk from another important church, the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady.

How the Convent Began

The idea for this convent came from four sisters in 1582. Their names were Luisa, Catalina, Ana, and Francisca Marroquí. They belonged to one of the oldest families in Écija. They decided they wanted to create a monastery for nuns.

The new church and convent building were officially blessed. This special event happened on May 21, 1596.

A Special Place in History

The convent is recognized as a very important historical site. On November 17, 2009, it was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural. This means it is a "Property of Cultural Interest" in Spain.

The building itself has a simple design. It still has its original bell tower, which has a unique angular shape. Inside, you can find many beautiful artworks. These include paintings, altarpieces, sculptures, and old jewelry. The art shows a mix of Moorish and Andalusian Baroque styles.
