Corina's Early Life and Career
Corina Chiriac was born in Bucharest, Romania. Her father, Mircea Chiriac, was a well-known composer, and her mother was a talented pianist. Growing up in a musical family helped Corina develop her own passion for music and performing. She studied at the National Theatre Institute and graduated in 1972.
After finishing her studies, Corina quickly became a star. She recorded over 500 songs and appeared in many TV shows in Romania. She also traveled a lot, performing in countries across Eastern Europe during the 1970s and early 1980s.
Corina's Voice in Disney Movies
From 1988 to 1994, Corina lived in the United States. During this time, she got an exciting offer from Walt Disney Pictures. She became the voice of Ursula, the sea witch, in the Romanian version of the classic animated movie, The Little Mermaid. She voiced Ursula in 1994 and again in 2005. Later, in 2010, she also voiced Morgana in The Little Mermaid 2. This made her voice familiar to many children in Romania.
Celebrating Corina's Art
In 2004, Corina Chiriac received a special award called the Romanian Order of Cultural Merit. This award recognized her amazing contributions to art and culture in Romania.
More recently, in 2024, a special exhibition about Corina Chiriac was held at the Palace of Culture in Iași. The exhibition was called Corina Chiriac, istoriile unei mari artiste, which means "Corina Chiriac, stories of a great artist."
