Cortaderas is a village and municipality located in the San Luis Province of central Argentina. It's a beautiful place known for its natural surroundings. The town is split into two main parts by a road called Provincial Route No. 1.
On the east side of the road, you'll find the lovely Villa Elena, the rural area called La Cañada, and the San Miguel neighborhood. On the west side are the neighborhoods of Balcarce and Cortaderas.

What's in a Name?
The town's name, Cortaderas, comes from a Spanish word that means "sliced." This name makes sense because the town is literally "sliced" in half by Provincial Route No. 1.
The neighborhoods of Balcarce, Malvinas Argentinas, and Cortaderas are on the west side of the highway. Villa Elena, San Miguel, and La Canada are on the east side.
Natural Reserve Quebrada de Villa Elena
To the east of Cortaderas, you'll find the Natural Reserve Quebrada de Villa Elena. This is an important national park in Argentina. Cortaderas is one of the main ways to enter and explore this amazing forest park.
How Many People Live Here?
According to the 2010 INDEC Census, there are 822 people living in Cortaderas. This number includes all the areas within the village limits, even the national park of Villa Elena.
This population figure shows that the town has grown quite a bit. There was an increase of 161 residents, or 24%, compared to the number counted in the 2001 INDEC Census.
