Cosamaloapan is a city in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It's located in a flat area called the Sotavento zone. The city is about 240 kilometers (150 miles) from Xalapa, which is the capital city of Veracruz. The area of Cosamaloapan is about 323 square kilometers.
A famous poet named Manuel Carpio was born here. The larger area around the city is called the municipality of Cosamaloapan de Carpio. It was renamed in 1918 to honor Manuel Carpio.

The municipality of Cosamaloapan is surrounded by other towns. To the north are Tierra Blanca and Ixmatlahuacan. To the south are Chacaltianguis and Tuxtilla. To the east is Carlos A. Carrillo, and to the west is Tres Valles.

Cosamaloapan has special celebrations throughout the year. In May, people celebrate in honor of the Virgen de la Concepción. She is the patron saint of the town.
Another big celebration happens in December. This event honors the Virgen de Guadalupe.
