About Cosmo Pyke
Early Life and School
Cosmo Pyke was born in Peckham, a part of Southeast London. He went to The Brit School for Performing Arts. This school is famous for many successful musicians who studied there, like Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Loyle Carner.
His Music Journey
Cosmo's music often mixes different styles. People have described his sound as a blend of jazz, reggae, hip hop, and indie music. He is known for his relaxed, jazz-inspired vibe and creative songwriting.
First EP: Just Cosmo
In 2017, Cosmo released his first collection of songs, an EP (Extended Play) called Just Cosmo. He worked with producer Fraser T. Smith on this project. The EP included songs like ‘Wish You Were Gone’, ‘Chronic Sunshine’, and ‘Great Dane’.
Cosmo said that Just Cosmo was like a diary of his teenage years. It shared his thoughts and feelings, even using sounds from his own life. For example, the song ‘Great Dane’ starts and ends with a clip from 'Just William', a story he loved as a child. He wanted the music to sound like it was played live.
Later Music and Tours
In late 2020, Cosmo released a new song called ‘A Piper For Janet’. This was the first song from his EP with the same name. He released it through his own label, Pykrete Records. The name 'Piper' is a nod to artist John Piper, and Janet was Cosmo’s grandmother. He wrote these songs over several years while traveling and performing in places like South America and Asia. The full EP, which included songs like ‘Filet Mignon’ and ‘Seasick’, came out in January 2021.
In 2021, Cosmo performed an acoustic set in Denmark for the Brodie Sessions. This performance, which included visuals, was released in January 2022.
On March 29, 2023, Cosmo officially released ‘Curser's Lament’ as a single. Fans had been asking for this song since a demo version appeared online in 2016. The full Curser's Lament EP was released on May 5, with songs like ‘No Comply’ and ‘What Can I Do?’. After this, Cosmo went on his first headline tour across the UK in May 2023.
In 2024, Cosmo continued to release new music. He put out the single ‘Outlaw’ in January and ‘Low’ in February. Cosmo shared that ‘Low’ was a special song for his fans. He had played it at his live shows years ago, and the crowd loved it so much they even gave it a new name. He then gave the song back to them. In April 2024, he went on his first headline tour in Europe, ending with a show in London.
