How Cousins Maine Lobster Started
The idea for Cousins Maine Lobster began in 2011. Two cousins, Jim Tselikis and Sabin Lomac, were talking about their favorite foods. They missed the tasty lobster they ate growing up in Portland, Maine.
They loved the idea of food trucks in Los Angeles. So, they decided to bring Maine lobster to California! Their very first food truck opened in 2012.
Appearing on Shark Tank
In 2012, the cousins appeared on the TV show Shark Tank. They asked for money to help their business grow. Barbara Corcoran, one of the investors, gave them $55,000. This helped them expand their business even more.
Growing Across the Country
By 2014, Cousins Maine Lobster had four food trucks in Southern California. They also started working with other people to open "franchises." A franchise means someone else can open a Cousins Maine Lobster truck or restaurant in their own city.
In 2015, they opened their first regular restaurant in West Hollywood. This restaurant had even more menu items than the food trucks. By 2017, they had 26 food trucks in 13 different states!
New TV Show and Future Plans
On April 11, 2021, Jim Tselikis and Sabin Lomac started a new TV show. It's called "Food Truck Rehab" and it premiered on The Food Network.
As of February 2024, Cousins Maine Lobster has grown a lot! They have 60 locations across the country. They are also planning to open new spots in the Chicago area soon.
