Early Life and Music Journey
Coy Bowles was born and grew up in a town called Thomaston, Georgia. He started playing the guitar when he was 11 years old. By the time he was 13, he was already in a band called Betty Doom. They played punk rock and rock-n-roll music at local parties and churches.
Coy went to West Georgia College to study biology. There, he met Zac Brown. But just before finishing college, Coy decided he wanted to be a musician instead of a biologist. He took a year off to practice guitar for about eight hours every day! This hard work helped him get into the Jazz Studies Program at Georgia State University's School of Music. While studying there, he also played jazz and blues music around the city of Atlanta.
After college, Coy started his own band called Coy Bowles and The Fellowship. One day, his band opened a show for the Zac Brown Band in Auburn, Alabama. A short time later, Zac Brown asked Coy to join his band, and Coy said yes!

Coy Bowles and The Fellowship Band
Coy Bowles and The Fellowship is a band that mixes different music styles. They combine blues, jazz, and even some gospel, country, and rock music. Coy says the idea for The Fellowship is for musicians to play together with one main goal: to play with all their heart!
When Coy started writing music for this band, he made sure the songs had great melodies and lyrics. But he also included parts where the musicians could play freely and make up music on the spot. He wanted his band's music to sound special and new, while still honoring the musicians who inspired him. In 2006, Coy Bowles and The Fellowship released their first album, Into the Distance. This was the year before Coy joined the Zac Brown Band. Even today, Coy Bowles and The Fellowship still play shows in the Atlanta area when Coy isn't touring with the Zac Brown Band.
