Cranston was a small, quiet place in Muscatine County, Iowa, United States. It was known as an unincorporated community. This means it didn't have its own local government like a city or town.

History of Cranston

Cranston was once a stop along the Milwaukee Road, which was a very important railway line. Trains would pass through, connecting people and goods.

Changes Over Time

The railway line was removed in 1982. After that, not much was left of the original community. In 1925, about 42 people lived in Cranston. By 1940, the population grew a little to 53 people.

What Remains Today?

Today, only about thirteen houses are still standing in Cranston. There is also a graveyard, located half a mile east of where the town used to be. Most of the graves there belong to people who followed the Protestant faith.

Education for Students

Kids living in the Cranston area attend schools that are part of the Louisa–Muscatine Community School District. This district helps make sure students get a good education.
