The Critics' Choice Awards are a special event that celebrates the best movies and TV shows each year. An American group called the Critics Choice Association (CCA) gives out these awards. They honor the most amazing achievements in film and television. Critics vote to choose who gets nominated in December. Then, they vote again to pick the winners. The winners are announced at a big ceremony in January. Sometimes, special awards are also given out.

History of the Awards
The awards were first called just Critics' Choice Awards. In 2010, the word Movie was added to the name. This was done to show they were specifically for films. A new group was formed the next year to give out awards for TV shows. Those became the Critics' Choice Television Awards. Now, the name Critics' Choice Awards refers to the main ceremony. It celebrates great performances in both movies and television.
Where the Shows Were Held
From 2006 to 2009, the awards ceremony took place in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. From 2010 to 2012, it was held at the historic Hollywood Palladium.
How the Shows Were Broadcast
The awards show started being shown on TV in 2001. It was first on E! Entertainment Television for four years. Then, it moved to The WB Network for two years. After that, it went back to E! for a year. VH1 started broadcasting the show in 2008.
In 2013, the live show moved to The CW. The 19th ceremony aired on January 16, 2014. It was broadcast live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. In October 2014, it was announced that the Critics' Choice Movie Awards would move to A&E for 2015 and 2016.
The show then returned to The CW in 2017. It stayed there until 2024. In 2025, it moved to the cable channel E!, with a replay available on Peacock.
Award Season Timing
The Critics' Choice Awards ceremony usually happens in the second week of January. This was often after the Golden Globe Awards. The Golden Globes traditionally started the film awards season in the first week of January. However, in 2022, the Critics' Choice Awards claimed the first Sunday of January. This happened because the group behind the Golden Globes faced some issues. Many in the film industry decided not to support their 2022 ceremony. Because of this, NBC did not broadcast the Golden Globes that year.
The Critics Choice Association then decided to move their show to the first Sunday in January. By October 26, 2021, an agreement was made to show the awards on TBS as well. TBS is a sister network to The CW. This helped more people watch the show.
