Crosfield Electronics was a British company that made special electronic machines for printing. It was started in 1947 in London, England, by two clever people, John Crosfield and Dennis Bent. Their main goal was to create devices that could help print colorful pictures for books, magazines, and newspapers.

What Was Crosfield Electronics?

Crosfield Electronics became famous for its amazing inventions in scanning technology. They found new ways to scan images, especially in color. This was a big deal for the printing world.

Early Inventions

One of their most important inventions was the Scanatron, which came out in 1959. Later, in 1969, they released the Magnascan. Both of these machines used a special method called "colour drum scanning." This method helped printers get very accurate and vibrant colors on paper. It made pictures in magazines and other printed materials look much better.

Changing Owners

Over the years, Crosfield Electronics became a very successful company. In 1974, a company called De La Rue bought Crosfield Electronics. De La Rue is well-known for printing banknotes and other secure documents.

Later, the company changed hands again. In 1996, Fujifilm Japan, a big company famous for cameras and imaging products, took over Crosfield Electronics. They renamed it Fujifilm Electronic Imaging. In 2008, the people who worked at Fujifilm Electronic Imaging bought the company themselves. It is now known as FFEI Ltd.
