Who is Cthulhu?
Cthulhu is part of a group called the "Great Old Ones." These are powerful, ancient beings. They come from far-off places in the universe. They are now on Earth, waiting for a special time. This is when they will rise up and rule the planet. The Old Ones are not good or evil. They simply do not care about humans. They see humans as tiny and unimportant, like ants.
Cthulhu's Strange Appearance
Cthulhu's look is very different from anything on Earth. It is so unusual that seeing one could be very shocking. In the stories, looking at Cthulhu can make a person feel very confused. It can make them lose their sense of reality. This is because their minds cannot understand such a strange creature.
Where Does Cthulhu Live?
In one of Lovecraft's famous stories, The Call of Cthulhu, Cthulhu is sleeping. He is in a dream-like state. He rests in a sunken city called R'lyeh (pronounced: rill-ee-yeh). This city is deep underwater. It is located in the Pacific Ocean. Cthulhu is waiting there for the right moment. This is when the Great Old Ones will awaken and rise again.
