Cubitt Artists facts for kids
Cubitt Artists is a special place in London where artists can work, show their art, and learn new things. It's run by artists themselves! Cubitt started in 1991. Over the years, it has moved to different locations in London, like Kings Cross and Cubitt Street. Now, you can find it in the Angel area.
Cubitt Gallery: A Place for Art Shows
The Cubitt Gallery is a cool spot where new art is shown. It gets money from Arts Council England. This helps them run a special program called the Cubitt Curatorial Fellowship. This program helps new art curators learn how to organize art shows. It lasts for 18 months.
Many talented people have been part of this program. Some past curators include Polly Staple, Emily Pethick, and Michelle Cotton. The person currently in this program is Seán Elder.
The Cubitt Gallery has shown art from many famous artists. Some of these artists are Adam Chodzko, Aleksandra Mir, Angela Bulloch, and Tacita Dean. Other artists like Gustav Metzger and Willem de Rooij have also displayed their work here.
To help support the gallery's art shows, a special collection of art was sold in 2000. It was called the Cubitt Print Box. This box had twenty unique artworks made by well-known artists. Some of the artists who contributed included Alex Katz, Chris Ofili, Martin Creed, and Wolfgang Tillmans.
Cubitt Studios: Where Artists Create
Cubitt Studios offers workspaces for artists right in the middle of London. Up to 30 artists can have their own studio space here at one time. This is where artists can create their amazing artworks. Some very famous artists used to work at Cubitt Studios. These include Chris Ofili, Dinos and Jake Chapman, and Peter Doig.
