Cuisine is a popular magazine from New Zealand. It comes out every two months. This magazine is all about delicious food and tasty wine!

Cuisine started way back in 1986. It helps people find great recipes to cook at home. It also reviews restaurants and wines. Plus, it has fun travel stories. The magazine also gives out special awards every year. These include the Cuisine Good Food Awards and the Cuisine Artisan Awards.

Cuisine has won many awards itself! It was named the best food magazine at the Gourmet Voice World Media Awards. It also won the best food magazine award at the Le Cordon Bleu Food Media Awards.

History of Cuisine Magazine

Cuisine was the very first magazine in New Zealand just for food and wine. It was started by someone named Hamish Allison. Then, Julie Dalzell bought it in 1986.

Over the years, the magazine changed owners a few times. In 2001, Independent Newspapers Limited (INL) bought it. Then, in 2003, Fairfax Media took over. Later, a company called Slick & Sassy Media bought Cuisine. Today, Kelli Brett is the editor of the magazine.

Cuisine Restaurant Awards

Since 2004, Cuisine magazine has held a big competition. It finds the best restaurants in New Zealand! These awards are now supported by Vittoria Coffee.

Many amazing restaurants have won these awards over the years. Here are some of the top winners:

  • In 2011, the Supreme Winner (the very best restaurant) was Merediths.
  • In 2010, Riverstone Kitchen won the Supreme Winner award.
  • Logan Brown was the Supreme Winner in 2009.
  • In 2008, Matterhorn took home the Supreme Winner title.
  • Martin Bosley's was the Supreme Winner in 2007.
  • The French Café won the Supreme Winner award in 2006.
  • In 2005, Café Bastille was named the Best Restaurant.

These awards help people discover wonderful places to eat all across New Zealand!

Cuisine Artisan Awards

In September 2008, Cuisine magazine started another special award. These are called the Cuisine Artisan Awards. An "artisan" is someone who makes things in a skilled, traditional way.

These awards are for small businesses that make special food products. This includes things like jams, sauces, and baked goods. But it does not include cheese, wine, olive oil, beer, or coffee. To enter, a business must have been selling their products for at least a year. This shows they are successful.

Here are some of the top winners from past years:

  • In 2011, the Supreme Winner was Havoc Pork for their Yorkshire Black Bacon.
  • In 2010, Clevedon Valley Buffalo Yoghurt won the Supreme Winner award.
  • The Supreme Winner in 2009 was Salumeria Fontana for their Sicilian Sweet Fennel Sausages.

These awards celebrate the amazing small food makers in New Zealand!
