History of the Cathedral
The idea to build this beautiful church started a long time ago.
Starting Construction (1842)
On May 22, 1842, a bishop named Lázaro de la Garza y Ballesteros gave permission to start building the church. This was a big step forward for the community.
Pauses and Restarting (1855)
Building a large church takes a lot of time and effort. The construction stopped for a while, but then it started again in 1855. This time, another important person, Pedro Loza y Pardavé, helped get the work going again.
Final Completion (1885)
The construction faced another challenge and stopped once more. This happened because of something called the Reform Movement, which was a time of big changes in Mexico. Finally, the church was completed in 1885 by José de Jesús Uriarte. It took many years and a lot of dedication to finish this amazing building.
Architectural Style
The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary has a special look.
Neoclassical Elements
Its design mostly uses neoclassical elements. This means it looks a bit like ancient Greek and Roman buildings, with grand columns and balanced shapes.
Eclectic Touches
You can also see some eclectic elements from the 1800s. Eclectic means it mixes different styles together, making the cathedral unique and interesting to look at.
