What is an Unincorporated Community?
An unincorporated community is a place where people live and work, but it's not officially a city or town. It doesn't have its own mayor or city council. Instead, the local government for Cullen is the government of Union County. This is common for many smaller areas across the United States.
How Cullen Got Its Name
The community of Cullen has an interesting story behind its name. In 1885, a post office was opened in this area. The very first person in charge of this new post office was named Joseph Cullen. The community was then named after him! This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1906.
