Cynidr facts for kids
Saint Cynidr was an important early Christian saint from South Wales. He lived a very long time ago, in the 500s. He was also the first Bishop of Glasbury, a town in Powys. A bishop is a leader in the Christian church, like a pastor or priest, but with more responsibility over a larger area.
Honoring Saint Cynidr
Saint Cynidr is buried in Glasbury, a place that still remembers him today. People honor him with a special day called a feast day on April 27 each year. A feast day is a day set aside to celebrate and remember a saint.
The main church in Glasbury is named after him, the Church of St Cynidr. Even though the church we see today was built much later, around the year 1088 AD, it still carries his name. There is also a special "holy well" in the town that people believe is connected to Saint Cynidr.
Saint Cynidr's Family
Saint Cynidr came from a very important family of saints and royalty. His mother was Saint Gwladys. His grandfather was a famous ruler named King Brychan.
Cynidr also had a sister, Saint Eigon. She is known as the Patron Saint of Llanigon, a village not far from Glasbury. A patron saint is like a special protector or guide for a particular place or group of people.
