In December 2018, D'Wan decided to play college football for the University of Georgia. He chose Georgia over other big schools like Ohio State and Michigan State. College Football Journey
Playing for Georgia
D'Wan's first year at Georgia was tough. He had to have emergency surgery for a brain cyst. Because of this, he was given a medical redshirt. This meant he could still play four years of college football later, even though he was on the team.
In 2020, D'Wan had a chance to become the starting quarterback. The previous starter, Jake Fromm, left for the NFL. Another player, Jamie Newman, decided not to play due to the COVID-19 pandemic. D'Wan started the first game against Arkansas. After a difficult first half, another player, Stetson Bennett, took his place. D'Wan got more playing time later against Florida. On November 28, 2020, D'Wan decided to leave the team. He entered the "transfer portal," which is how college athletes can look for new teams. On December 14, 2020, he announced he would transfer to Temple.
Time at Temple
When D'Wan joined Temple, he was named the starting quarterback right away. His first game was against Rutgers. It was a tough game, and Temple lost. D'Wan shared playing time with another quarterback, Justin Lynch, during the season.
In one game against Memphis, D'Wan had an amazing day. He completed 35 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns! He finished that season with six touchdowns and 1,223 passing yards. There were rumors that he might leave Temple, but he announced he would stay.
The next season, D'Wan was again named the starting quarterback. However, after a difficult game against Duke, he was replaced by a new player, E.J. Warner. After this, D'Wan started practicing as a wide receiver. This meant he was trying to play a different position on the team.
On October 15, 2023, D'Wan decided to enter the transfer portal again.
Joining Davenport
In 2024, D'Wan Mathis made another move. He transferred to Davenport University. Now, he plays football for the Davenport Panthers.
