Daiki Takamatsu (高松 大樹, Takamatsu Daiki, born September 8, 1981) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a forward and spent most of his career with Oita Trinita. Takamatsu also represented the Japan national team.

Starting His Career

Daiki Takamatsu was born in Ube, Yamaguchi on September 8, 1981. After finishing high school, he joined Oita Trinita, a team in Japan's J2 League, in the year 2000. In his very first season, he played in 6 games and scored 1 goal.

Becoming a Key Player

By 2001, Takamatsu became a regular player for Oita Trinita. He played in 22 league games and scored 8 goals. In 2002, his team won the J2 League championship. This win meant they were promoted to the top league, the J1 League.

Takamatsu became a very important player for Oita Trinita. He even became the team captain starting in 2008. He helped guide many younger players who joined the team.

Winning the J.League Cup

In 2008, even though he faced some injuries, Oita Trinita achieved a big victory. They won the J.League Cup, which was their first major title. In the final match, Takamatsu scored the winning goal. Because of his amazing performance, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

Later Years and Retirement

After 2009, Oita Trinita was moved back to the J2 League. Many main players left the club, but Takamatsu chose to stay. In 2011, he played for FC Tokyo for a short time on loan. He then returned to Oita Trinita in 2012.

His team was promoted back to the J1 League in 2013. However, they were relegated again in 2014 and then to the J3 League in 2016. In 2016, Oita Trinita won the J3 League and moved back up to J2. Takamatsu played very few matches that year and decided to retire from football at the end of the 2016 season.

Playing for Japan

Under-23 National Team

In August 2004, Daiki Takamatsu was chosen to play for the Japan U-23 national team. This team competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics. He played in all 3 matches for Japan and even scored a goal against Italy.

Senior National Team Debut

The year 2006 was a great one for Takamatsu in terms of scoring goals for his club. This led to him being called up to the Japan senior national team. He earned his first cap (played his first game) on November 15, 2006. This match was a qualification game for the 2007 Asian Cup against Saudi Arabia. He played two games for Japan until 2007.
