Daisuke Sakata (born January 16, 1983) is a famous former Japanese football player. He was known for playing as a forward, scoring goals for his teams. He even played for the Japan national team once!

Early Football Journey
Daisuke Sakata started his football journey in youth teams. He first played for the Yokohama Flügels youth team. Later, in 1999, his team joined with another, and he became a youth player for Yokohama F. Marinos.
Rising with Yokohama F. Marinos
In 2001, Daisuke joined the main team of Yokohama F. Marinos. His first game in the league was on June 16, 2001. He scored his first league goal on August 18, 2001. From 2003, he became a regular player for the team. Yokohama F. Marinos won the J1 League championship in both 2003 and 2004.
Playing Abroad and Return to Japan
After ten years with Yokohama F. Marinos, Daisuke moved to Greece in 2011. He joined a team called Aris in the Superleague Greece. However, he only stayed there for a short time. He soon returned to Japan and played for FC Tokyo for the rest of 2011.
In January 2012, Daisuke signed with Avispa Fukuoka, a team in the J2 League. In 2015 J2 League, Avispa Fukuoka finished third and moved up to the top league, the J1 League. But they only stayed in J1 for one year, as they finished last in 2016 J1 League and went back down to J2. Daisuke decided to stop playing football at the end of the 2017 season.
Playing for Japan
Daisuke Sakata also represented his country, Japan, in football.
Youth Team Success
He was part of the Japan U-20 national team in 2002. They played in the 2002 AFC Youth Championship in Qatar. His team finished second, which meant they qualified for the 2003 World Youth Championship.
At the World Youth Championship, which was held in the United Arab Emirates, Daisuke scored 4 goals. He was one of the top scorers in the tournament! His team reached the quarter-finals but was defeated by Brazil.
Senior Team Debut
Daisuke made his first appearance for the main Japan squad on August 9, 2006. It was a friendly game against Trinidad and Tobago. He came into the game in the 86th minute.
Life Off the Field
Daisuke Sakata married Sayaka Fukuoka, an actress and TV personality, in February 2009.
