Damon Hall, also known as Hartland Town Hall, is a special building in Hartland, Vermont. It's found where three roads meet: US Route 5, Quechee Road, and Vermont Route 12. This building was finished in 1915. It was built to remember William E. Damon, a well-known local businessman.

Damon Hall is a great example of Colonial Revival style architecture. This style looks back to the buildings of early American colonies. It has been used for many important things in the town since it was built. In 1988, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes important historical places in the United States.

What Does Damon Hall Look Like?

Damon Hall faces east towards the main intersection in Hartland village. It is a one-and-a-half story building. It is made of brick with concrete details. The building sits on a strong concrete foundation.

The roof is a hip roof, which means it slopes on all four sides. It has small windows called dormers sticking out. The main entrance is on the east side. It has tall, round columns and a fancy triangular top. On each side of the entrance are two windows. The corners of the building have brick columns.

Inside Damon Hall

The inside of the building has a large central room. This room is an auditorium, which is a space for performances or meetings. It has a stage at one end and a balcony at the other. Town offices are located in rooms on the second floor. There are also more rooms behind the stage on both floors.

The History of Damon Hall

Damon Hall was built between 1914 and 1915. The design was created by H. F. Beckwith from Claremont, New Hampshire. It was a gift to the town from the family of William E. Damon. He was an important local businessman who passed away in 1911.

The building stands on a spot where a hotel used to be. That hotel had been there since 1795. One of the front rooms in Damon Hall used to be the town library. The hall has been used for many different events. These include town meetings, plays, and other performances.

Damon Hall is a very well-designed building. It shows a high level of Colonial Revival architecture. This was quite special for a small town like Hartland at that time.
