Dance/Mix Show Airplay facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart is a special list that keeps track of popular dance and mix show songs. It's published by Billboard Magazine, a well-known music magazine. This chart shows which songs are played most often on radio stations in the United States.

The chart first started on August 16, 2003. At first, it wasn't public. It became an official, public chart on October 25, 2003. When it began, it tracked songs from six radio stations that played dance music all the time. By 2008, the chart became something you could only find in Billboard magazine.

The chart changed its name to Dance/Mix Show Airplay in November 2011. This was when you could also see the list of songs on the BDS Radio's website. This included songs from certain Top 40, Rhythmic, and Adult Top 40 stations that shared their mix show playlists with Billboard. A simpler version of the chart, showing 15 songs, was added to Billboard's website in January 2013.

When the chart first started in 2003, it listed 25 songs. In December 2014, it grew to include 40 songs. You can find this chart from both Billboard and BDS.

The very first song to reach number one on this chart was "Never (Past Tense)" by The Roc Project featuring Tina Arena. This happened for the week ending August 16, 2003. When Billboard officially released the chart on October 25, 2003, the first number-one song on that public chart was "Just The Way You Are" by Milky.
