Daniel Doyle (born April 28, 1940 – died August 6, 2019) was a famous Irish folk singer. He was born in Dublin, Ireland. During the 1960s and 1970s, he was one of the most popular singers in Ireland. He often had songs in the Irish music charts. He even had three songs reach number one! Danny Doyle recorded 25 albums. He is well-known for his chart-topping songs. These include "Whiskey on a Sunday", "A Daisy a Day", and "The Rare Auld Times".

Early Life and Start in Music
Danny Doyle was born in Dublin. He left school when he was fourteen years old. After that, he started doing different odd jobs. One of his jobs was helping out at Dublin's Pike Theatre. There, he learned many traditional Irish songs from traveling performers.
Becoming a Star in Ireland
In the 1960s and 1970s, Danny became one of Ireland's top singers. His songs were often on the Irish music charts. He had three number one hit singles. One famous moment was when his song "The Rare Auld Times" became number one. It took the top spot from ABBA's hit song "Take a Chance on Me". "The Rare Auld Times" was written by Pete St. John. It stayed on the Irish Music Charts for 12 weeks.
In 1979, Danny Doyle was the first artist to record another famous song by Pete St. John. This song was "The Fields of Athenry". Danny is probably most famous for his 1967 number one hit, "Whiskey on a Sunday". Other popular songs he sang include "A Daisy a Day" and "The Rare Auld Times". Songs like "A Daisy A Day", "Streets Of London", "Lizzie Lindsay", and "Whiskey On A Sunday" made him very popular in the 1960s.
Later Years and Performances
In 1983, Danny Doyle moved from Ireland to the United States. He performed in concerts all over the world. This included famous places like Carnegie Hall in New York. He also sang at the Albert Hall in London. Danny worked with Bill Whelan, who was a pianist and producer. Bill Whelan is also known for composing the music for Riverdance.
Even after he stopped performing regularly, Danny still appeared on stage. In 2010, he performed with other artists at the Milwaukee Irish Fest.
Danny Doyle passed away on August 6, 2019. He was 79 years old. He died at his home in the United States. He is remembered for his wonderful voice and his contributions to Irish folk music.
