Dante Powell is a funny stand-up comedian. He was born in Bernice, Louisiana, but now he lives in Des Moines, Iowa. In 2020, his comedy album called The Squirrels Get Fat became super popular. It reached the number one spot on the iTunes and Amazon comedy charts! A famous magazine, Paste Magazine, even said it was one of the best comedy albums of 2020 by a Black comedian.
Dante's Early Life
Dante Powell grew up in a town called Bernice, Louisiana. When he was young, he looked up to New York Knicks basketball player Willis Reed. Willis Reed also came from Bernice. Reed's success inspired Dante to want to entertain people too. Before he started telling jokes on stage, Dante worked as a truck driver.
His Comedy Career
Dante moved to Des Moines, Iowa, in 2012. Two years later, in 2014, he began his journey as a stand-up comedian. His jokes often talk about the differences between growing up in the Southern United States and living in the Midwest. This "culture clash" gives him lots of funny ideas!
Dante has performed at many cool comedy events. He was at the Green Gravel Comedy Festival in Iowa City in 2017. He also performed at Denver's High Plains Comedy Festival in 2018. In 2019, he joined the 10,000 Laughs festival in Minneapolis. He was the main performer at the Floodwater Comedy Festival in Iowa City in 2019. That's where he recorded all the jokes for his first album, The Squirrels Get Fat.
