What is Dave's Texaco?
A Historic Gas Station
Dave's Texaco was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 16, 1994. It was originally built in 1927. Over the years, this gas station has had a few different names. People also knew it as Dave's Exxon and Dave's Conoco.
The Building's Look
The building itself is made from stucco. This is a type of plaster often used on the outside of buildings. It sits on a strong concrete foundation. The roof of the building is made of asphalt.
A Look Back in Time
Its Early Days
When Dave's Texaco was first built in 1927, it was located right on U.S. Route 2. This was a major road at the time. However, the road has since been changed. U.S. Route 2 now runs two blocks away from the old gas station.
The Long-Time Owner
For many years, Dave's Texaco sold only Texaco brand products. This continued until 1978. That year, Texaco stopped doing business in the state of Montana. The gas station had a very dedicated owner named David Sprinkle. He was the third owner of the business. David Sprinkle ran the gas station for a very long time, from 1938 until at least 1993.
